UAE Nowcast - Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 21, 2026
Overview
UAE Nowcast ("the App") is a weather radar application that displays real-time rainfall data for the United Arab Emirates. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
Data We Collect
Location Data: The App may request access to your device's location to show the rain forecast where you are. To compute that forecast, the coordinates of your location or of a spot you tap (rounded to about 100 m) are sent to our server (nowcast.uaepro.me). On iOS, if you turn on rain alerts, your selected coordinates and a push notification token are stored on our server so it can check the forecast for you; turning alerts off removes them. On Android, rain alerts are checked periodically on your device using locally stored coordinates; no push notification token is registered with our server. The widgets and Apple Watch app use the device's last known location in the same way. For weather, sea and tide forecasts our server requests data from Open-Meteo for a position rounded to about 5–10 km; Open-Meteo never receives your exact location or anything that identifies your device. These coordinates are used to provide location-based weather features. Coordinates rounded to about 100 m or 1 km can still identify a precise location.
App Activity and Connection Data: Requests for forecasts, radar frames and map tiles reveal the features and places you view. Our servers and the network services described below receive these requests, including connection information such as IP addresses. Request logs may retain URLs and coordinates. This processing supports app functionality and service operation. The Android app has no account system, advertising SDK or dedicated usage-analytics SDK.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- The Android app does not request names, email addresses or contacts. If you email support, we receive the contact information and message you send.
- The Android app does not collect advertising IDs or register a push notification token.
- We do not use advertising cookies or cross-app tracking SDKs.
Network Requests
The App fetches radar and forecast data from our server (nowcast.uaepro.me). Point forecast requests include selected coordinates, rounded to about 100 m for rain and about 1 km for Android weather, sea and tide requests. Network services also receive standard connection information such as your IP address, and server request logs may contain requested URLs and coordinates. Radar data originates from the UAE National Center of Meteorology (NCM).
Notifications
If you turn on rain alerts and grant permission, iOS receives push notifications through Apple Push Notification service. Android checks the forecast periodically using the last selected location stored on your device and posts local notifications. Android battery restrictions can delay these checks. You can disable alerts in the app and revoke location or notification access in system settings.
Third-Party Services
The iOS app uses Apple Maps. The Android app uses MapLibre to load CARTO basemaps based on OpenStreetMap data. CARTO receives map tile requests and connection information, which can reveal the area being viewed. Our server uses Open-Meteo for weather and marine data at a coarsened position of about 5–10 km. Hosting and network providers process requests to deliver the service.
Data Storage
All app preferences (theme, selected model, opacity) are stored locally on your device using platform storage on iOS and Android. Android also stores the selected alert location locally. Cached radar images are stored in temporary cache that the operating system may clear. Clearing Android app storage removes its local preferences and saved alert location; uninstalling removes app-local data.
Website (nowcast.uaepro.me)
The website has no accounts, cookies, analytics or ads. Your preferences (theme, model, layers) are kept in your browser's local storage.
Location: when you tap the map, pick a city, or choose "my location", the coordinates of that spot (rounded to about 100 m) are sent to our server to compute the rain forecast for it. Your browser only shares your device location if you allow it. Request URLs and coordinates may appear in server request logs.
Third parties: the base map is loaded from CARTO, and current temperature, wind and humidity for the selected spot come from Open-Meteo via our server, which coarsens the position to about 5–10 km. Satellite imagery is from EUMETSAT and radar data from the UAE National Center of Meteorology, both relayed through our server.
Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users aged 13 and older and is not directed at children under 13.
